Sili-Uses: Cooking With Silicone
4 MINUTE READ
Cooking, baking, and more, with your Silipint! Ever wondered if you can put hot drinks in Silipints? Or if they’ll break if left in the freezer? Will silicone melt or off-gas in the dishwasher, microwave or oven? At the Silipint HQ, we’ve heard lots of questions and seen many surprised faces when folks hear the versatile ways to use Silipint, beyond just a beverage container.
Patented Silipints are 100% FDA-approved, food-grade platinum silicone, which means they’re free from BPA, BPS, phthalates, and other toxins. Unlike other drinkware materials such as glass, plastic, stainless or ceramic, they thrive in extreme temperature changes, making them ultra safe and insulating for hot or cold, and can even be used for cooking or baking.
To give you a head start on how you can use your Silipints, regardless of their size, here’s the 4-1-1 on temperature extremes, recipe ideas and pro tips on what versatile, flexible and virtually indestructible silicone can do.
Microwaving With Silicone
Perfect if you’re planning an outdoor adventure, throwing the annual summer BBQ, or just getting sili in the kitchen with your kids, being able to toss your Silipints in the microwave makes life much easier. Whether you’re in the dorm room, prepping breakfast for kids or flying out the door to work, here are a few on-the-go recipes to try in your Silipints.
Plus, unlike glass or ceramic, when you pull a Silipint out of the microwave you won’t burn your hands. Leave behind the unsustainable coffee sleeves! The insulating nature of silicone keeps the heat inside. Though, you must be careful as the contents inside may be hotter than you think.
For these recipes below, if you’re on-the-go, a 16 oz Pint & an XL Lid or 12 oz Base & a Travel Lidmake great cooking and serving sizes. One of our newest, the 18 oz Squeeze-a-Bowl is an excellent size to cook with as well, especially with kids. They grip to countertops, won’t break if they fall to the floor and are slurpable (which the kiddos love!)
- Oatmeal – Add about 1.5 cups of water to your Silipint and ½ cup of oats. Cover & microwave for about 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle with brown sugar, sliced almonds, or fresh fruit and you’ve got a healthy, easy, ready-to-eat breakfast. Taking it to go? Cook it in a Pint or Base and cover it with a lid to keep it warm until you’re ready to eat!
- Steamy Soup – Make soup ahead of time and fill up your Silipints, top them off with the appropriate lid and stack them in the fridge (or freezer for longer-term storage). If you’re heading to work or class, grab one for a quick lunch you can reheat in the microwave.
- Morning Eggs – Simply add eggs to your Silipint, give them a scramble, add peppers and cheese. Cover and heat on high in your microwave for about two minutes. Fluffing occasionally.
Baking With Silicone
Silipint products can be safely put in the oven up to 450°F. Plus, the inner polished surface of Silipint products eliminates your need for foils or oil sprays. The best part about baking with Silipints is that once you’re done cooking in them, you can toss them in the dishwasher to enjoy the easiest cleanup ever! Prefer to hand wash? No problem! Sticky messes are a thing of the past with Silipints polished surface. They’ll easily wipe clean, every time.
Great for making single-serving or portions for small groups to share, our 8 oz Half Pint Glasses are excellent for baking dips and desserts. Here are just a few ideas of what you can bake in your Silipint:
- Desserts like cupcakes, brownies, and muffins. Or, mini birthday cakes!
- Dips, like creamy artichoke or layered taco dip
- Single-serve pot pies
- Quiche assortments
Camping, Grilling & BBQ’ing With Silicone
Want to show off some interesting party tricks at your BBQ or at camp? Put Silipints on your grill, away from direct flame, and watch people look at you like you’re crazy!
Cooking at camp is easy with Silipint Squeeze-a-Bowls. Prep meals like oatmeal, soup/chili, or eggs (see Microwaving above). Add boiling water or heat up food right in your Squeeze-a-Bowl. Simply put it on top of fire pit grates and keep out of direct flames to avoid charring.
Everyday Life With Silicone
If you haven’t noticed, we think silicone is a pretty amazing material. It has the ability to insulate hot and cold while also keeping our hands at a comfortable temperature. It can be thrown in a microwave, placed in an oven, stacked in a dishwasher, and packed in all of your travel bags.
Use them for making hot chocolates for the kids at camp, or heating up your soup for a quick work lunch, Silipints will make your life easier, more efficient, and more sustainable. Always be sure to do your research on silicone products that you’re interested in. Silipints are made from the highest quality silicone and curing processes, but not all silicone products are made equally or with the same standards. Stay safe and ask questions!
